Ingredients

We recommend using the following branded ingredients for this recipe:

egg(s)

Crisco Vegetable Oil

Duncan Hines Chocolate Cake Mix

Duncan Hines Chocolate Frosting (16 oz.)

Hormel Microwave Ready Bacon (12 oz.)

  • 3 egg(s)
  • 1/3 cup Crisco Vegetable Oil
  • 1 package Duncan Hines Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 tub Duncan Hines Chocolate Frosting (16 oz.)
  • 12 pieces Hormel Microwave Ready Bacon (12 oz.)

Preparation

  1. Microwave the bacon according to package directions. When done, let cool slightly, then crumble.

  2. Meanwhile, prepare cupcakes according to package directions. Then stir in 2/3 of the bacon crumbles and pour into baking cups. Bake according to package directions (18-24 minutes at 350 degrees).

  3. When done, let cupcakes cool. Then frost and top with a few bacon crumbles.

Cook's Notes

The best way to frost cupcakes is to glob a bunch on top (don't be shy!), hold the knife in your right hand, and smooth out by turning the cupcake clockwise in your left hand. The goal is to get the icing all the way down to the cupcake liner but no further. Spending a little more time smoothing out the frosting will make your cupcakes look much better!

Comment: Thanks for getting in touch with us! Yep, you do add the water. I guess our directions are a little confusing on the website; we say to prepare the cupcakes according to the package directions (which would include adding the water) but as a standard practice we don't include the water in the ingredients list. We'll take a look at how we explain the recipes and figure out how to make it better!

Comment: I plan on making these today for my nephew's birthday. I was just wondering if you do not add any water as the cake mix calls for, or if it was just an oversight?
